Muscle Stimulation

We proudly use methods of electronic muscular stimulation (EMS) units that function similar to a TENS unit with many additional benefits that a TENS unit cannot perform.

You will be required to purchase stimulation pads for these machines and will be provided the pads post care for each follow up visit using this device.

Each set of pads can be used 1-5 times or more. People with oily skin, use of creams or other products and even excess hair often have less time use for their pads. We will place these pads on your affected area and monitor your use for care with the machine.

The machine programming is typically set for 30 minutes and is often recommended to be combined with one of the other non-invasive techniques indicated below, based on condition. This is usually determined post care.

EMS stimulates Type 1 (slow twitch) and Type 2 (fast twitch) muscles to improve muscle healing, strength, as well as tendon or ligament health.

Gua Sha, Scraping, Graston

This technique is good for superficial areas that pertain to the skin and fascia tissue which surrounds a muscle. This method helps to increase circulation and break up fibrotic tissue at a superficial level in areas that are difficult to reach with cupping but not as good as cupping for larger areas.

We typically use this in areas like the neck, knee, or around the hand and fingers. This method is superb when it comes to trigger finger or issues with the hand or foot.

Cupping

Stationary and Slide cupping:

You have probably seen this on celebrities or professional athletes as it is often a fad and not used in a stronger therapeutic manner.

Stationary cupping helps to increase circulation and is a good weak method for unbinding fascia. It helps increase circulation to the muscles in the area where the cup lies.

Slide cupping is a combination of fascia release and movement along the plane of the muscle in order to increase circulation and reduce spasm from superficial to medium depth muscles.

A note: people with more body fat can feel discomfort with this method as the cup can pull the attachment area where the fat tissue is at and cause discomfort in some people.

Cupping whether stationary or sliding is a very good alternative to acupuncture but not as deeply effective for long term relief.

Tui Na: Active Muscle Release and Stretches

This method combines Gua Sha and deep tissue release of muscles by moving fascia and forcing muscles to release.

For some this method causes a strong sensation of relief such as deep tissue massage does, and for others they may feel that this is a little uncomfortable. This muscle release method is not commonly performed by providers any longer as it requires more time between patients regardless of its effectiveness. We hold pride in quality time with our patients for your wellbeing.

We uphold the tradition of utilizing Tui Na, Active Muscle Release as it is a very beneficial method used alone or as a significant method of release and improvement when combined with acupuncture care.

Oils, Balms, Linaments

The use of natural Balms (Battle Balm), liniments, and oils will be used for the methods indicated above in order to help reduce topical inflammation, improve circulation, and to reduce pain post care. We recommend either heat post care or periodically we will recommend ice circulated followed by heat. We will explain which method is thought to be best for your condition based on your symptoms presented that day.

Needle-less Treatment Times

Each method indicated above is charged at 15 minute intervals but may take between 5-15 minutes for a treatment. It is based on when your muscle properly releases and maintains the effect sought after. Some muscles release sooner than others and can vary by day as the human body reacts differently to each treatment. We do not extend the above services longer than 15 minutes as we are not a Massage Service though we do have a massage therapist on site that can be scheduled if desired.

Insurance Patients

Many insurances do not cover any of the methods listed above. Discounted prices for Gua Sha, Cupping, or Tui Na Active Muscle Release is only for add on charges with non-approved acupuncture insurance visits. A non-discounted rate will be administered with the methods listed above.

For those using insurance we will inform you of coverages prior to your first visit and with each year update of your insurance policy.
